Where Groningen begins

Hotel Corps de Garde is located in an authentic and historic building in the Oude Boteringestraat. A building that served as a guardhouse for soldiers and city guards in the 17th century to guard the city. For no less than 5780 florins, the design by carpenter Berent Geerts became reality. In the 18th century, the gable was replaced by a cornice, which is still clearly visible today. At the beginning of the last century, the building was poetically nicknamed 'the army on columns' while city dwellers spoke of 'Kortegaard'. After a major renovation in 2021, the building was transformed into a boutique hotel where the age-old elements come together with modern and colorful life. Here, past, present and future come together. We cherish the power of time, the stories and traces from the past in order to let go of the current busy sense of time for a while. Hotel Corps de Garde is the perfect place to start your adventure to discover everything Groningen has to offer: this is where Groningen begins.

Breakfast was nice as well, a good diversity of salty-sweet options and tasty coffee served by the personnel when requested.”
